Programming was my Plan B, too. (Funny that it was for so many others.) I tried startups for a while, 3x as a founder and 2x as a first engineer. I found I liked engineering more than business, design, and other roles. I then joined a big company and fell in love with the work. Engineering with lots of resources and more hard problems than you have time for, in an environment that rewards EQ, is so much fun. I never expected it’s what I’d be doing.
