This reminds me of my first visit to the US (I'm from Europe, and was about 17-18 so this was a long time ago).
Folks (very very good people) I'm staying at : you'll let us know what snacks you eat, and what beverages you like.
Me (surprised) : I don't snack, and I drink water.
Them (genuinely surprised) : then when do you eat?
Me : well, three meals a day.
I remember wondering (and I still do) what the US would look like without snacks and sodas. I had been brought up the exact opposite way.
Edit: I had been brought up the opposite way, and been told that snacking and sodas would be bad for my health, and were a major cause of obesity, and it was quite a bit before 2003.
- grandmczeb 4y agoYou’re a huge outlier then. There are tons of popular snacks in Europe and almost all of the top 10 countries with the highest candy consumption per capita are European (highest being Germany.)
