I've met some pretty cool people through YC's co-founder matching tool. The people I've met helped by making intros inside their network. I've provided similar intros, referrals, and a bit of technical advice. I don't have any expectation that I'll meet a co-founder, but it's nice to chat with people who really "get it." Most of my friends, family, and former colleagues think I'm batshit for trading a cushy salaried gig for my own startup.
