imho Amazon has a big problem with its image and hiring. It is literally impossible to find good developers that want to work for Amazon. Taking advantage of the current market conditions to do this is going to spectacularly backfire once the market recovers.
- bitL 4y agoGiven Meta and Google are slowly turning into another Amazon (e.g. by an influx of Amazon managers bringing their "culture" with them) and Amazon is now paying competitive, I don't think that would be a big medium-term problem for them.
- generalpf 4y agoI worked for a mid-cap tech company that brought in Amazon and Salesforce senior leadership in 2021. The culture immediately eroded as these guys’ penchant for finger-pointing and hustling beyond a reasonable human’s capacity became clear.

- johnbellone 4y agoIt’s been true for me.
- geodel 4y agoAlso, markets can stay irrational longer than people stay solvent.
- x86x87 4y agoI'm going to tell you what. I still remember the Microsoft layoffs in 2008. I was not impacted but at that point I decided I will never work for Ms again. Amazon is also on my "hell no" list.
- mavelikara 4y agoThey have been able to grow to almost a trillion dollars in market cap, during very competitive hiring market conditions, with those image problems. I will be very surprised if any backfiring, much less a spectacular one, happens.
- x86x87 4y agoIf the growth stops the same tactics stop working.
