100% agree that people should consider self-hosting. just be mindful of for what purposes. let me elaborate: if all you want is a simple static blog, i find little to no reason behind going beyond github pages. for self-hosting some cloud services, go for self-hosting BUT don't expose it to the internet willy-nilly. rather use tailscale or something and access it behind a vpn. if you really want to offer a public utility to others by running it in your household, it is often not worth the tradeoffs with making it secure enough.
