some of my treasured childhood audio books have instead been prefixed with a disclaimer
"this audiobook was developed and recorded many years ago. It's a product of it's time and day. It contains discriminatory thinking and language which back then was not challenged or questioned sufficiently. Any discrimintation is wrong, back then and today, and it is inappropriate, as we understand today in our pluralistic and equal opportunity society. We have still made the deliberate decision to re-publish the audio book unmodified and to _not_ hide it's past cultural shortcomings. We recommend to critically reflect discrimination. We have gathered introductory and deepening material about discrimination on our website ... "
imnsho this is a much more helpful approach, as it leads to critical thinking instead of shohooing "bad stuff" under the rug.
The uncensored books are a learning opportunity for both parents and children, which is thrown out to present a sterile nice clean world. And this cleansing is doubling down on Roald Dahl, who very deliberately kept rough corners in all his works to get people thinking.
