The V language was always real, and never a scam or vaporware. This clearly false view and misconception, partly originates from very early on (2019), and whether the language would actually be released on GitHub.
When the source code release was delayed (back in 2019), detractors and competitors pounced on this, and attempted to give the impression that the language didn't exist. But then, it was finally released on GitHub, and proven to be real. Unfortunately, the very tribal drama had already been started, and detractors and competitors kept it going. Obviously (since 2019 and easily confirmed on GitHub) V has near weekly releases, hundreds of contributors, and continually improves. That's about as real as it gets.
Hopefully we can kind of put an end to the old unnecessary drama and tribalism. It's now 2023. There is enough space in the world for different programming languages to coexist. No need to bash other languages or continually fuel more drama, we can enjoy whatever language, and keep it moving. Peace.
- amedvednikov 4y agoThe source code release wasn't actually delayed. It was promised by June 2019, and it was released by June. I did an early release of the Patreon-only compiler without sources, and that was a mistake.
- Tozen 4y agoThis is good to know. Was under the impression there was a delay, based on this terrible and abusive series of posts (item?id=20230351) from "V Programming Language released" (20 June 2019), and where other language creators and their supporters were making derogatory remarks, insults, and trying to hurt the funding of another developer. And then actually made pleas to try to divert funding and supporters to themselves. Persons in the thread gave the impression the release was suppose to be June 20th, when in actually, that was a Patreon supporter early release (as you have stated). The general release was on June 22nd. Furthermore, if the release was to be sometime in June, then it should not have mattered which day (as long as in June) nor was it necessary to come at a developer like that doing an open-source language release. Upon looking at it further and with this link (https://github.com/vlang/v/issues/287 https://github.com/vlang/v/issues/287), to confirm the facts of what happened, you can see that you indeed did an early release and scheduled the actual release on June 22nd. Thanks for setting the record straight.
