Facebook launches Blue Checkmarks for $11.99/mo
- anigbrowl 4y agoIt's very on-brand for Facebook that they'd price it at $11.99 instead of $12.
- samstave 4y agoELI5? I can't fathom how anyone (individuals) would want to pay for that... (but I havent used FB in a decade....
- ksaj 4y agoI'm interested in seeing how this will affect Twitter folk's so-called mass exodus, since it normalizes the entire concept of paying for blue checkmarks. But it ignores the fact that you could use sites like gmail and microsoft to log as a verified user. It all comes back down to spreading out your personal information to every site that wants to follow Twitter's lead.
- samstave 4y agoWe need a "reverse login model" instead of a "through-thread" I dont want to login to Site A with my Site B creds. I needa locally controlled app that ASKs me for a token to be even allowed access to my data, and that system, should I choose to delete an account, will delete my data from said site. We passed an act with that intent "data portability"
- anigbrowl 4y agoI don't know why they would want to pay for it either. I'm just reacting to the BS strategy of anchoring the reader to $11 (+99 cents) instead of $12. It's sad to me that this works, and FB shows itself (again) as a company that prefers to exploit something that works rather than set a higher standard.
- lordkrandel 4y agoLike I care. It's been like 5 years that we hear "Advertising is not sustainable" "Moderation has to be paid"...
