I think any country that has seriously considered a war with the US as a likely eventuality knows targeting the US mainland is a top priority as far as countermeasures go. American residents not being in the vicinity of the true cost of war is a tremendous privilege that wont be allowed to continue indefinitely, I expect this is why long range hypersonic missile development is only ramping up.
