I still enjoy self hosting, and part of the challenge now is "how can I do it without having a loud power hungry server?" I did it with the pi3 for a few years, but expanded into Proxmox and a small form factor Dell box with a new m2 ssd in it. It's been great so far, and does quite well on the UPS when we lose power.
Went from a PowerEdge 2650 in the spare room to a way smaller optiplex 3060. SO much quieter and friendlier to the power bill. Also, a lot faster too. :)
