No breakthrough for sure, but the usability at an adequate level for almost any text or code generation, doesn't mean we need full AGI to start breaking society. If feels like people are expecting robocop, but owning an electric table saw, KitchenAid mixer and a electric golf cart - in the year 1800 - would still be revolutionary even if those are just stupid tools. ChatGPT is a stupid tool, but what that tool, in unskilled human hands can do, will be more revolutionary than ChatGPT becoming some self-aware robot.
