This week in KDE: a smooth release of Plasma 5.27
- ykonstant 4y agoI have a question about Plasma, and Linux DE more generally: is there a relatively easy way to get skeuomorphism through customizations? I lurk on r/unixporn but all I am seeing from big DE rices is material, material and more material; flat, flatter, and flattest. I am thoroughly sick of it.
- ahartmetz 4y agoRegarding KDE, I think the Oxygen icons and widget style are still available. They are somewhere between leather-bound notebook Apple and Google Material.
- 2Gkashmiri 4y agoi updated to 5.27 and i changed to wayland and it has been VERY stable. Last year i could not continue for an hour without graphical bugs and crashes.
- thejosh 4y agoI love Plasma, was using it for years until the jankiness got to me. Used low latency patch for a while. Chrome for example can't run past 60fps in kwin. I really think the future is more smaller desktop environments like LabWC etc. Desktop environments like Gnome, KDE etc where they try to package everything you might possibly need in a desktop, but half the apps they provide are out of date or broken is a bad user experience. Gnome for example has become impossible to change important settings such as mouse acceleration without also having gnome extensions installed. It's bizzare.
- mathisdiego 4y agoBtw they actually just merged mouse acceleration options into Gnome settings.
- wkat4242 4y agoI really wish they'd fix the bug that's keeping us FreeBSD users stuck on version 5.24 :'( https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=458356 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=458356 Nothing has happened on it since last September. At least 5.24 is an LTS version so it's still receiving security updates, but it's still annoying, I want this new goodness :)
