I saw a great visualization of this long ago. It plots two curves of ability, one for execution and the other for evaluation. They both increase with sinusoid curves shifted so that when one plateaus, the other is at an inflection point at highest rate of increase. Technique and critique don’t necessarily advance smoothly at the same rate, leaving a variable gap over time, so sometimes you feel better about your work and sometimes you think it’s trash. The important thing is to keep practicing.
