I loved this place, I spent a whole day here once just whimsically coding on all of the boxes that would let me. It felt like all of the stories I had read about the older days of computing truly came to life in front of me. Hell, I forgot the model but there was one that had an older typewriter-like interface that could play chess, I beat it and the museum staff took my picture! It was a magical place, truly sad I can’t visit it anymore.
- hunter_irving 4y agoHi malwrar, I'm Hunter Irving, a former employee of LCM+L. I was the one who started the practice of taking photos of chess winners. I don't have them all, but some of the Hall of Fame photos (up to April 2018) are preserved here: https://hunterirving.com/blog/2017/the_hall_of_fame/hof/# https://hunterirving.com/blog/2017/the_hall_of_fame/hof/# Maybe you'll see yourself in there! The computer you were playing against was either a DEC PDP-8 or a PDP-8e. The program was CHECKMO-II ( https://www.chessprogramming.org/CHEKMO-II https://www.chessprogramming.org/CHEKMO-II ).
