- rvz 4y agoFor those who love to still hate Twitter and won't click the link: >> OpenAI was created as an open source (which is why I named it “Open” AI), non-profit company to serve as a counterweight to Google, but now it has become a closed source, maximum-profit company effectively controlled by Microsoft. Not what I intended at all. - Elon Musk That was also my original impression of OpenAI when it first launched and many others in [0] Was supposed to be a non-profit, open-source and countering DeepMind's closed AI. Now it is the exact opposite of all of that and is almost essentially a Microsoft-owned AI division. OpenAI might as well rename to ClosedAI or just get itself fully acquired by Microsoft given its investment and exclusivity deals. As soon as it transitioned to a for-profit, it became another VC scam. [0] https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10720176 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10720176
