Microsoft increases Bing Search API pricing
- dgllghr 4y agoI hope this doesn’t affect DuckDuckGo
- giancarlostoro 4y agoI started using Kagi since someone on HN suggested it as a paid ad-free engine, it supports some of the "bang" features that DDG supports, I'm still debating paying for Kagi, the content is not emphasized by an AI, but by other people using the search engine. You can upvote or downvote results interestingly enough.
- smallerfish 4y agoI'm pretty sure that Kagi (partly) uses Bing API, so this may affect their pricing. (I am currently a happy Kagi subscriber.)
- giancarlostoro 4y agoWas not aware, my understanding is they have their own crawler, but also of note, you can custom create your own bangs and make it point to any other search engine as long as it has a query parameter you can shove your search query to.
- ActionHank 4y agoIt will probably have a net positive. After seeing Google and MS chasing hype instead of focusing on a better experience for users I've moved over as of this week.
- graeme 4y agoYes but they use the Bing API. If their costs per search exceed their revenues per search new users won’t help them

- jihadjihad 4y ago> Microsoft announced a pricing update for the companies Bing Search API recently that increases the price by up to 1000% for some transactions. > This is not the largest increase, however. Instance S2's price jumps from $3 for 1000 transactions to $15, and the price for Bing Statistics Add-in transactions jumps from $1 per 1000 transactions to $10 per 1000 transactions. It's a common error, but going from $1 to $10 is a 900% increase, not 1000%. Just repeat in your head anytime you're doing a calculation like that: final over initial minus one...
