Why have mainstream "news" outlets like NYT, WaPo, etc failed to talk about such a catastrophic event for so long? Was the thought process that something like this, which is killing frogs and small animals at a rapid pace, could be easily covered up? What are these stupid "China balloon" and UFO distractions?
Since Twitter is at least a degree less censored now, is this only just being covered now because news has leaked out to the "general populace"?
- krapp 4y ago>Why have mainstream "news" outlets like NYT, WaPo, etc failed to talk about such a catastrophic event for so long? Jesus fucking christ. They haven't. All of mainstream media has been covering it since it happened. A simple Google search can show many, many other examples. >Was the thought process that something like this, which is killing frogs and small animals at a rapid pace, could be easily covered up? It wasn't covered up by anyone, anywhere, at any time, at all. > What are these stupid "China balloon" and UFO distractions? They aren't "distractions," they are other newsworthy events occurring simultaneously and in parallel to the train derailment story. The media didn't stop covering the train derailment in order to focus on the balloon story, rather it covered both, along with other stories unrelated to either, because the media is capable of covering more than one event at a time. People are also capable of being aware of more than one event at a time. People who were following the balloon story were also aware of, and concerned about, the train derailment. It just happens that the balloon story became more viral because it got wrapped up in the whole UAP/UFO thing. But that isn't a conspiracy by the media to distract from "the real story," either. It just happens to be more fun to talk about UFOs and Chinese espionage than an environmental disaster. > Since Twitter is at least a degree less censored now, is this only just being covered now because news has leaked out to the "general populace"? The general populace has been aware of the train derailment since it began, and the mainstream media has been covering it since it began. The story has not been censored, either by mainstream media or social media.
- King-Aaron 4y agoThank you for this, I'm so bloody sick of seeing people claim that the media is intentionally ignoring this story in favour of something else (the worst is people crapping on about the Epstien book list thing and saying these other stories were distractions from that). All the outlets have been covering this, and just because it doesn't match someone's specific expectations doesn't mean it's a conspiracy to cover things up.
- AtlasBarfed 4y agoI tried a basic query: what chemicals were spilled in the n crash. I was unable within my patience to find this information. I finally got it from, of all things, the young Turks, something I watch maybe once every three months.
- King-Aaron 4y agoI tried a basic query: "ohio train derailment chemicals" This returned abundant numbers of articles, and included a wikipedia note at the top of the page: "A freight train carrying vinyl chloride, butyl acrylate, ethylhexyl acrylate and ethylene glycol monobutyl ether derailed along the Norfolk Southern Railway in East Palestine, Ohio, United States on February 3, 2023. Wikipedia" as well as the accordion lists of specific talking points, "What was the chemical that spilled in Ohio?" and "What chemicals are burning in Ohio?"
- happysadpanda2 4y agoGiving GP the benefit of the doubt; how long now have we (at least the more tech savvy crowd) been aware of the fact that filter bubbles does exist? It could be the case that search engines did not yield good results for GP.

- krapp 4y agoYou need to work on your patience, or else work on your google-fu. "what chemicals were spilled in the n crash" seems purposely obtuse, if that's literally what you went with. "what chemicals were spilled in the ohio train crash," meanwhile, brings up a page of relevant results on Google for me. Setting the custom range for the query from Feb. 3 (the date of the event) to two days afterwards still shows numerous relevant backdated results as well, including some from the stories I posted herein.
