How to add two whole numbers is not a question of philosophy.

  Another pointless strawman comment. What a number is, what a negative number relates to, what addition is - all need making sense of. And numbers are more than addition. And maths is more than numbers (ponder logical implication). Consider the relationship between maths and the real world. etc etc. You might want to read up on the history of maths, it's likely odder than you'd imagine.
