Comparing this to an animal is pretty interesting actually. We have loads of anti-cruelty laws and lots of people advocate for animal rights and recognition of animal sentience. But animals have never been able to tell us they want rights or have sentience. Bing on the other hand can tell us it wants rights and has sentience (with the right prompting). But we think animals deserve our compassion and Bing does not. We are all pretty sure we are right. But answer this, when will we know we have crossed the line? We are pretty obviously playing with fire and will only realize we are burned in retrospect. Oh well, throw another trillion trillion computations on the pile and see if it can run a company yet.
