Software development is a far more evaluable profession than teachers. Most of the "problems" that bad teachers create don't show up for a few years. Contrast that with code that doesn't compile/link or requires way more QA. Or personality issues that are sorted quite easily by a functional team/leader. Teachers are more like naval vessel commanders than software engineers.
