I find this is what supermarkets do. They sell you basil and other fresh herbs in MASSIVE packs that you will likely only use 1/4 of for any meal. The rest goes bad and gets tossed out. It's basically a scam to make you feel like you are getting an ok deal because you are getting so much. But really it is just a way to charge you more without seeming like a price raise.
