David Singmaster, Rubik's Cube Guru, Has Died
- ColinWright 4y agoI know the wikipedia page hasn't caught up yet, (Edit: it has the death year now) but I've spoken with his wife, now widow, and confirmed the news. Rob Eastaway said: David Singmaster, the great puzzle collector, historian and Rubik's Cube guru, died on Monday morning after a long illness. He was a unique character with an infectious child-like enthusiasm for puzzles of every kind. A visit to David's house was the puzzle equivalent of a trip to Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. Once there it was almost impossible to leave ("let me just show you this..."). His passing leaves a big hole in the world of recreational maths. RIP David. I've stayed with David and Deborah, and as Rob says, it was so hard to tear oneself away. I will certainly miss him.
