Tell HN: I had an accident and ChatGPT has been helpful
I had an accident and I‘m in the hospital for a while. No mental issues. I started paying for ChatGPT and asked it all the questions about my situation. It‘s not about the treatment itself but about the process of healing, and all it‘s surroundings. I‘m learning a lot. I found it very helpful to cope with the situation and to kill the boredom with relevant data. It‘s not a replacement for a doctor, I don‘t try that. It‘s giving me the information I‘m curious about which this stressed healthcare system can‘t provide.

I recommend double checking the answers on google, I've tested it on subjects of rehab and respiratory physiology in the past and it's often wrong. I know that's not precisely what you're asking it about but I don't see why it would be more accurate about the healing process. One trick I've found is to tell it that it's wrong multiple times, and it sometimes corrects itself. For example if you ask for the lowest impact exercise for quadriceps after a full knee replacement surgery, it will give you exercises that will blow out your knee, if you tell it "no, that's not the lowest impact.", it eventually reaches the correct answer: isometrics. That being said it did recommend Qigong to me which was a pretty cool discovery, so there is good with the bad. It's also much more pleasant than most hospital staff.
- muzani 4y agoIt's fun to use on medical reports too. My wife is the type to google every medical term. I just OCR-ed and copied it into ChatGPT and it does a much better job of explaining things, especially when given the full context of a report.
