In the old days when the card machine went down they'd pull out the manual machine that used carbon paper to pick up the embossed numbers on the card and you signed for it.
Of course there were lots of cases of fraud linked to those too.

- ars 4y agoThey really do? My new credit card is no longer embossed - I assumed that this no longer existed anywhere.
- Danny_Dan4 4y agoYup! My semi-local Micro Center did exactly this back when there was a major internet outage in their area; it was a mess, but incredibly neat!
