Honest question - do people actually look at commit messages seriously? For me it would be a nightmare to review by commit...Instead if you think of the smallest unit of work as the PR, you can just view all the changes and be done with it. Not saying a commit message should be drivel but it can just be a simple one liner (it does help with Git Lens as you navigate code but that's about it).
