The big companies with deep pockets do, because they weaponize them against smaller companies that threaten their turf.
While there are some legitimate software patents, the vast majority are junk (trivial, obvious, overly vague, etc.) The cost versus benefits is heavily on the costs side. Past attempts to fix them kept failing. Time to toss'em.
- JohnFen 4y agoI'm far from convinced that there are any software patents that should be considered legitimate. In the US, you aren't supposed to be able to patent algorithms if they fall into any of three categories: mathematical concepts, methods of organizing human activity, or mental processes. Which software doesn't fall into one of those bins?
