I saw and worked with quite a lot consultants. Many of them are great at creating fancy diagrams and design documents, some of them are good at communications, but I have yet to find them that can deliver any real quality code in the end before they move to their next project somewhere else. I will avoid consultants, along with contractors in software field as much as I can.
