Genuinely curious, because I feel like I'm missing something - the owner is apparently disillusioned by nobody caring, but why were people supposed to care in the first place?

First I've heard of this site. Is the owner saying the site is closing down, or something else. Seems like a nice idea, but maintaining a site like that probably is a ball-ache, definitely want to find some users that are really into a site like that so you can delegate some moderation.

I fear for children of the future, they may end up thinking the internet is just a corporate mouthpiece. Sites like this will be just a memory.

It seems like a person who is not really technically trained. He got a good sounding domain and a bit of popularity and battled through trolls all these years - then popularity (and questionable usefulness) faded, the joy/stress ratio quickly became not worth it. I get that this person must be stressed, but this decision does not have much useful morale. A bit like this HN post - catchy name, but not much substance.

It seems like a person who is not really technically trained.
