Social media can make people depressed because they can more easily compare themselves with others. But ultimately, that's a good thing. When people advertise their success, it makes others more likely to emulate it. People see their friends making lots of money and traveling the world and it makes them feel bad, it makes them unhappy in the short term, but it also lets them know that they can do better and don't have to settle for what they have now.
