Which is the best course you have completed on any topic under the sun?
The topic need not be only tech related (which is the speciality of the majority HN crowd). It can be anything from politics, economics, literature, biology, etc.
- warrenm 4y agoAbsolutely the top two classes I ever took were in college - Introduction to Terrorism (took is spring '00 - before terrorism got "cool"). Not "introduction to be a terrorist", but an investigation of the socio-religio-economic drivers of terrorism around the world (with a primary focus on Latin America and southeast Asia). This included defending a target against a range of terrorist actions (my group chose an embassy that backed to a river or harbor) - Counterterrorism (fall '06; taught by a former member of the Israeli Mossad). The big assignment in this class was to plan a terror attack on the school.
- rajeshp1986 4y agoVery interesting. Are these classes available to regular folks or do you need to be in army or police to enroll into these kinds of courses?
- warrenm 4y agoThe first was a general studies (or was it history) class at my community college The second was an upper-level general studies class (either 300 or 400 level) at the university I attended
- giantg2 4y ago"The big assignment in this class was to plan a terror attack on the school." These days I'd be afraid that someone would find them in some unrelated investigation and you'd be toast.
- warrenm 4y ago>These days I'd be afraid that someone would find them in some unrelated investigation and you'd be toast. That's possible now, I suppose ... but it's also precisely the kind of thing criminal justice, etc majors do (from those I know who've taken those types of classes) :)
- giantg2 4y agoNot an actual course, but this how-to book was great. Concise but still provides enough details and technical info. It also has a list of solid resources at the end. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/598841.A_Guide_to_Canning_Freezing_Curing_Smoking_Meat_Fish_Game https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/598841.A_Guide_to_Cannin...
