Microsoft needs a search deal with Apple to win the war against Google
- traveler01 4y agoAnd a cleaner UI. Bing is a mess right now...
- anonyfox 4y agoyeah, so apple designing the frontend for a bing+chatGPT powered search API would be ideal then? I'd pay for that actually
- traveler01 4y agoThey could take a few pointers from Google for sure. When I open bing.com I cringe hard from the amount of redundant crap, specially if you just want to make a quick search. They have News, Microsoft Rewards and all other BS that doesn't need to be shown there imo. Sure can be useful for some folks and you have a setting to remove them. Would be nice if the setting actually worked. For example, the setting to hide the news actually hides him from your sight but doesn't stop loading them at all, so if you scroll the page you still have them there. Hate it (not even considering that their news are garbage, I already downvoted a ton of celebrety news and they still show me the same amount of them). So yeah, I guess I'd be more excited about AI search if wasn't Microsoft doing it. They are very poor designers and Windows 11 is the greatest example, with a lot of redundancy and elements that clearly don't fit in their new design language.
- anonyfox 4y agoone point I definitely will give to microsoft: they are willing to support some aging tech until the very end, so I would have much more trust to build on a Microsoft product now instead of any google tool/product that is most probably on the graveyard next year.
- traveler01 4y agoYou do have a point, it's a safer alternative...
- throwaway4good 4y agoIt is not the search engine but the ability to monetize the ui and the data collected. Microsoft needs to get as good as Google from an advertisers perspective.

- voisin 4y ago> Microsoft needs to get as good as Google from an advertisers perspective Not really. Microsoft needs to take Google’s search users to kneecap Google’s revenue and weaken a major competitor. It doesn’t necessarily need to take the revenue to come out stronger - it just needs that revenue to leave the competitor.
- hooby 4y agoIt's not a war - it's a special anti-competitive operation!
- jsnell 4y agoIt will be kind of grotesque if the big winner of the LLM hype ends up Apple rather than any company actually developing or deploying them :-/
- wyre 4y agoWouldn’t Apple just buy whichever company’s LLM would best be integrated into Siri?

- rapphil 4y agoThey need to not ask to use a Microsoft account to use Bing with chatgpt.
