People talk much about “velocity” and being able to “hire from a big workforce” and being able to take advantage of “sane cloud defaults” and so on. From what I’ve seen there are a lot of businesses that never change all that much and can solve all those problems given a few decades so why pay more by going cloud? To me the success of the cloud is very very much tied to the rapid growth we have seen in tech and datacenter investment never actually stopped growing at any point.
