I've been saying this for YEARS and have more recently been assisting in reverse migration from cloud back to on-prem. We've saved companies millions per month in costs, and that's with EVERY cost accounted for on-prem (down to the cables and PDUs, racks etc. and manpower) on a 5 year HW life and depreciation schedule, cost of capital, etc. Doesn't matter though, it's just like the first round of outsourcing, CxO has to give the board/investors something that looks good and if all the CxOs are doing it, then you have to also.
