Thank you for your thoughtful response and kind sentiment! I should have been more clear that I’ve had a naive interest in learning more about DS/DE/ML/AI, and well as PL/Compilers, since well before the current economic environment. I doubt I would have enough motivation to learn something __just__ for extra perceived job security. For example, there is some tech I hope I am never forced to work with again (one of them rhymes with “lava”). My post was really about looking for extrinsic motivation to step outside my comfort zone, because intrinsically I __want__ to learn a lot of new things, but am struggling to actually set aside the time to do so.
