When you dig down into the history of various inventions, you tend to find that Edison was an excellent marketer of 'other people's inventions', rather than having invented things himself. For instance, Tesla worked for Edison for several years before branching off on his own. That's not to be putting Edison down, it's raising awareness of those true inventors that were often forgotten.
