Ask HN: How was the double-slit experiment proved?
In proving lights wave-particular duality. Was this replicated by anyone?
- troymc 4y agoYou could start by reading the Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double-slit_experiment https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double-slit_experiment That article also covers many variations of the experiment, and the many ways to interpret the results.
- SavageBeast 4y agoThe wiki page has a photo taken of sunlight displayed as an interference pattern, so apparently you can do this with sunlight? Time to cut 2 slits in an amazon box and go to the park on the next sunny day we get here.
- troymc 4y agoYes, you can do it with waves of water in a cake pan if you like. Any waves will do. The most amazing thing about the double slit experiment is that you get a wave interference pattern when you send photons towards the slits one at a time.
- smt88 4y agoIt's been replicated tens of thousands of times and you can replicate it at home very easily. https://www.instructables.com/How-To-Make-a-Simple-Double-Slit/ https://www.instructables.com/How-To-Make-a-Simple-Double-Sl...
- FearNotDaniel 4y agoIt's replicated every year by thousands of undergraduates in university laboratories. Part of the standard education for anyone studying physics, I managed to replicate it myself back in my uni days, and I really wasn't very good at that practical lab stuff.
