Most modern frameworks are a combination of SSR + CSR. First load is SSR for SEO and speed. Subsequent loads are CSR for performance reasons.
This works very well for both simple content sites and for more complicated web apps.
The only exception to this is that I use CSR only (SPA) for complicated internal web app. The initial load does not matter because we don't care about SEO and once an employee opens the web app, it stays open most of the day. It's just a better approach most of the time.
