Why I'm not the biggest fan of Single Page Applications
- senttoschool 4y agoMost modern frameworks are a combination of SSR + CSR. First load is SSR for SEO and speed. Subsequent loads are CSR for performance reasons. This works very well for both simple content sites and for more complicated web apps. The only exception to this is that I use CSR only (SPA) for complicated internal web app. The initial load does not matter because we don't care about SEO and once an employee opens the web app, it stays open most of the day. It's just a better approach most of the time.

- fulafel 4y agoThere main counterargument from the basic systems engineering pov is that having logic in the frontend bumps the system to another tier of complexity and hairiness as a distributed system running over a unreliable network. The language preference thing is there too but mitigated by lots of nicer languages that can target JS since 10+ years ago, like ClojureScript, Elm, TypeScript etc.
