Some, like the folks making CollapseOS and DuskOS foresee an eventual collapse, where our civilization is unable to fabricate new microprocessors, and so we have to repurpose and scavenge old ones. We're talking things like, repurposing z80 (such as in older TI calculators) as an environment for reprogramming microcontrollers.
