Marketing expert does not know how to do marketing for themself.
- rendall 4y agoBe kind. Don't be snarky. Converse curiously; don't cross-examine. Edit out swipes. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
- plaguepilled 4y agoOK but then how is this message any less snarky? You even italicised your quote like a proper criminal!
- mrweasel 4y agoMaybe it could have been worded better. There is a point though. When you see LinkedIn post from someone who lost their job, or who are simply looking for jobs, then the technical people are often much better at selling themselfs. Frequently you'll see someone who is looking for an engineering job post qualification, experience, salary range, desired location and what they can bring to a company. We still see them having interviews lined up within hours. For online marketing it's often "I lost my job at so and so. Do your thing network", and basically crickets, or people commenting that they'll share the post.
- bryanrasmussen 4y agoI don't think the one asking the question is supposed to be the marketing expert?
- hksoftware 4y agoI think to start a marketing agency it helps to know marketing.
- prawn 4y agoClearly. But the person asking is a programmer and is asking for ideas that they can pass onto their partner. I’d say they figure it’s no risk seeing if they can unearth something new, or to be in a better position to support the endeavour.
- petra 4y agoMarketing is a wide field, with many niches. And in general even if you know something it doesn't hurt to ask.
