I have visited some of those Maersk ships. The crew quarters and the living areas are nice. Some of the ships even had a swimming pool. It is possible because they have a very small crew relative to the size of the ship. The red and white checkered tablecloths are traditional danish style (colors of the flag, i guess), and probably oil-cloth which is easy to clean and provides some friction when the ship is rolling in the waves.
