Microsoft Outlook has begun serving me ads that look like emails
- dexwiz 4y agoI have noticed Gmail has started to do the same in the web client. It only shows up for my personal gmail, not my enterprise account.
- mohamedattahri 4y agoAt least they offer a subscription option for a 100% ad-free experience.
- teberl 4y agoGmail is doing this for me already for a while now. They are marked as Add but quite well integrated.
- deejaaymac 4y agomisleading title. It should be "Outlook ON MOBILE....."
- throwaheyy 4y agoMicrosoft themselves have named it Outlook. Not "Outlook on mobile".
- mouse_ 4y agoSorry if the title is unintentionally misleading. I no longer consider mobile a second class citizen; for many users today it is their only way of connecting.
- NoPicklez 4y agoBut it is Microsoft Outlook, so it's not really misleading, you just assumed incorrectly.
- PretzelPirate 4y agoAs much as it sucks, at least it's only in the "Other" tab and not in "Focused". I never look in Other anyway.
- sn_master 4y agoYou're lucky. I have to constantly check even Junk for important emails.
- gnuj3 4y agoWhy people still use those spying, ad serving services and then complain about it is beyond me. Its 2023, we know better, move on to a service that respect your privacy.
- quectophoton 4y ago[dead]
- bradleyankrom 4y agoI would guess that most people don’t have a choice when it comes to work services.
- anaganisk 4y agoYou may have to rephrase the question to what Microsoft is having on/for managers that make them keep sucking up to Microsoft. So much that people are forced to use their crapware.
- amf12 4y ago> Why people still use those spying, ad serving services and then complain about it is beyond me. Because they don't pay for services. Microsoft and Google both provide a paid version that is ad-free. Regardless of the version, neither use your emails for ad-serving or "spying". There are plenty of things we should be critical about w.r.t Microsoft and Google, but this ain't it.
- otikik 4y ago“If you don’t pay for the product, you are the product” is true… but deceiving. It implies that if you pay, you aren’t. Which isn’t true. You are the product even if you pay, because they make more money that way.
- amf12 4y ago> You are the product even if you pay, because they make more money that way. That's the whole point of any business.
- jurassicfoxy 4y agoAfter twice clicking on Google Maps directions that were very subtly labeled "ad" in tiny font, and driving to the entirely strong stores, I signed up for FastMail. Am migrating off Google products entirely. This kind of "accidentally click here" is evil. Would love to speak to the devs that implemented it. It's wild that this is so common.
- shortcake27 4y agoI’ve had this for years. I Only have a hotmail account for backup purposes. To be fair, it is differentiated enough for me not to accidentally click it. What angers me more than ads is that hotmail/outlook addresses are recycled. I still receive emails for the old owner of my email address, including Facebook OTPs. I could log in and steal his Meta account if I wanted. It’s downright dangerous, can’t believe they still allow it.
- Eatcats 4y agoGmail does the same for a while now https://postimg.cc/CRSFcJC1 https://postimg.cc/CRSFcJC1
- brokenmachine 4y agoThey're doing the ads in some weird language too!!
