I don't have any advice here, but The Personal MBA[1] is a reading list, and their pick "How to Read a Financial Report: Wringing Vital Signs Out of the Numbers"[2] doesn't sound like the worst. But I haven't read it, so don't mistake this for a personal endorsement.
