"The reversion of the humanities and social sciences to religious preparation cannot coexist indefinitely with the Enlightenment mission of STEM instruction. Something has to give."
Well, I hope the author lumps the study of economics into that, a discipline that has a far longer history of tribalism/subjectivism with the addition of pseudo mathematics.
If you think about it, economics provided the original model for subjectivist study in universities. Nobody from the "anti woke" crowd seems too excited by that though, like the author they are terrified that their personal morality might not be quite so moral after all.
- nhchris 4y agoI don't understand - why would the "anti woke" be terrified of criticism/demotion of economics? Are you trying to say most of them derive their personal morality from questionable economics teachings?
- ttyprintk 4y agoI think the author would agree about the provenance of economics. A degree from one particular school imbues a set of virtues; the Austrian school, the Soviet schools. I think the author has seen that in philosophy. Starting with, or coinciding with Derrida, maybe some philosophy departments are analytic whereas others are continental.
