Leave won with about 52% of the vote, that's what I'd call a slight majority.

  Yep, that is exactly the good thing, anyone can use his/her own metrics, though technically 50% + 1 vote is the majority, and democracy works that way, 52% is virtually indistinguishable from 48% as I see it.

    Does democracy work that way? Bush jr didn't get a majority and in blighty in the last election the Tories 'won' with 43% of the vote, which netted them 56% of the seats.
