This first generation of conversational AI clearly shouldn't be trusted, but I think there's huge potential for improvements. I see huge value in such an AI that can cite and quote real sources, and stitch together multiple verifiable sources in order to form an argument or narrative. We have already seen a glimpse of such an AI in Project Debater, which was able to quote real verifiable sources when making its arguments.
