Near disaster as ATC clears FedEx plane to land on top of Southwest jet at AUS

Props to the FedEx pilot for spotting the other plane and taking swift action, apparently. Note that visibility was apparently down to 1/8th of a mile, or ~200m. Yikes.

- 650REDHAIR 4y agoI heard the ATC feed this morning and my neck hair stood up. I wonder if this was just a long day for the controller and a momentary lapse or if they’re being pressured not to slow down Southwest flights and wanted to get it off the ground on time? I know that’s tinfoil-hat-y, but the last few months have shown just how fragile their/the system is and I imagine there’s a lot going on behind the scenes on the Federal side of things to help mitigate trouble.
