Am I the only one who remembers that these exact same predictions were made 20 years ago when cell phones started to become more and more ubiquitous? "There aren't enough raw materials on the planet, if every Indian and Chinese person wanted to buy a mobile phone. And think of how much energy that would require - that'd essentially mean the end of the world!" Anyone?

Spot on. Every time some new technology arises, the doomsayers raise the alarm. When the problem becomes imminent, society / technology generally finds a way to address most of the downsides
