Such a strange article on multiple levels.
«But the discovery that ChatGPT can pass the technical questions of the coding interview has raised questions about the platform's ability to transform not just Google but the engineering jobs behind it. Is this already happening, will it happen in five or 20 years?»
Its as if they aren’t even thinking this is a proof of the interview process being flawed. They are so convinced that using these (terrible) interview questions is a proof of good software engineering skills that when an AI solves them they attribute it to the «Software Engineer» title to in some way. I would argue this is a definite proof that those interview questions are not effective at showing peoples actual proficiency.
The other even more strange part of this article is that they are asking ChatGPT questions and then almost taking the answers as some form of proof that it wont replace engineers? I feel that this symbolizes the complete lack of understanding of how these AI work. Its only saying that because that is what is most often written about the subject online, its not actively thinkikg about the issue. Its the equivalent of analyzing the internet and seeing what is the most popular answer to this question.
This article is basically a proof in my mind that its going to be important in the future for everyone to get at least a basic understanding of the techonology.
