Rendition Verite V1000 Review
- karmakaze 4y agoI had heard of the Verite hardware but didn't see any footage or remember specs, possibly because it was out of my price range to matter. Trying to calibrate my memory, I was playing Descent I/II on likely a VLB non-3D accelerated hardware. Comparing those graphics to the Verite is home-graphics to pro-level of the day. At the same time, although the graphics is fantastic wouldn't have added so much to the immersive dynamic gameplay of Descent which was like Doom graphics with rotations. Another expensive graphics card I remember from the era were by Matrox which also had multi-monitor support as well as acceleration, perfect for a regular dev who likes to play games.
- sillywalk 4y agoI had one of these, or possibly one of the the later V2x000 series. It wasn't as fast as the 3dfx Voodooo, but unlike the voodoo, it could also do 2D acceleration, so you didn't need a separate card just for 3d games. I also remember Linux people trying to persuade Rendition to do an accelerated XFree86 driver, which I don't think ever happened.
- LargoLasskhyfv 4y agoRegarding lacking 2D-acceleration, the later Voodoo Banshee had that. And depending on the card also excellent RAMDAC. But slightly slower 3D. Which I didn't care about much at the time, anyways. Just exellent picture quality at 1600x1200@80Hz. Equivalent or better to anything Matrox MGA400 could do.
